Masada and the Dead Sea

1,350 feet below sea level, and for perspective, Jerusalem and Bethlehem are located about 2,500 feet above sea level. This ancient city is known for the Roman takeover and engineering, and Herod’s great rule. This is where Herod would have overlooked his own bath house and library, over the Dead Sea. Clearly the Sea has receeded, and is losing 3 feet a year.

The slaves that were ordered to create Herod’s vision had to work with what they had in the desert. These stones aren’t marble or graphite which would have looked higher class, but the stones they had at their disposal. A good question would be where the slaves retrieved firewood, livestock, and produce in the middle of rock.

Israel and Jordan separated by the Dead Sea.

Bathroom graffiti on the cliff of Masada. Just a passive description of the bigger picture.

The Dead Sea. 30% salt concentration. 124 degrees Fahrenheit in the valley.

Actually, these trees grow dates, not pineapples or coconuts. And nothing is better than fresh dates.

So if you have an open wound, it will burn. You literally can’t sink, the water just holds you up which is more than a foreign concept! We conducted a spa day in lukewarm water with the natural mud.. And our skin was out of this world afterwards!!

I guess you could say it’s pretty hot outside.

It was so nice to stay in a former intercontinental hotel in Jericho! It was so relaxing to be poolside getting our tan on 👙
